Welcome Unathi – awarded the GCF 3rd year bursary and internship for 2020!

The Gondwana Conservation Foundation would like to introduce Unathi Sifanelo, who was awarded the GCF 3rd year bursary and internship for 2020. Unathi is from the Eastern Cape and has studied through Nelson Mandela University in George. In her application she wrote the following

“I am from a background that views nature as something to be exploited and conquered instead of being conserved. Being different, this view is the one that fuelled my passion for nature and my burning desire to give it all the attention it deserves, in compensation for all the services it provides. After finishing my studies, I would like to go back to my hometown in the Eastern Cape and teach them that it is possible to live in harmony with nature and to equip them about ways to defy all the myths presented to them about nature, myths that are indirectly aimed at deteriorating our natural environment.“

This passion and ambition to educate her community is one of the many aspects of Unathi that inspire the GCF. We look forward to having her as part of the conservation team and seeing how she grows as she learns the practical implications of her studies. As part of the bursary Unathi will be sent on various short courses as well as given the opportunity to go to symposiums. The GCF would like to thank everyone who contributed to the GCF tertiary education fund. You have made it possible for Unathi to join the Gondwana Conservation Team.
