Gondwana Conservation Kids Program 2019 – A HUGE success!
The Gondwana Conservation Foundation (GCF) was privileged to share in the environmental education experience with 218 learners and 12 teacher this year. These learners came from the following schools; Herbertsdale Laerskool, St Lukes primary school, Ruiterbos Laerskool, TM Ndanda primary school, Imekhaya Primary school, Isalathiso primary school and Garden route primary school. They all enjoyed the experience and learned about fynbos, black wattle clearing, tracking and the animals on the reserve. The learners can now take the knowledge they gained during the Conservation Kids program and apply some of it to their local area. For many of the learners this was a once in a lifetime experience, it was wonderful to see the amazement on their faces as they saw animals they have never seen before. They enjoyed learning about the fynbos and tasting the sweet nectar of the Erica discolour and even the tangy taste of termites!
The feedback from the learners was positive with one saying “ It was very nice to see all the animals and I will tell my parents what I learned and how to look after animals” Many others said that they enjoyed seeing how clean nature can be and that they will try make an effort to keep their environment clean.
We look forward to the next step in our Conservation Kids’ program where we will be hosting selected learners for a camp on Gondwana Game Reserve.
